Poppies at Burton Agnes Hall

I like poppies. They are tall and elegant, with bright paper like petals. They gently sway in the breeze; their petals waving at you, beckoning you to come at take a closer look at them. When you do you are not disappointed.  

This picture is one that I have now sold.

It was inspired by the poppies there I saw growing at Burton Agnes Hall. I wanted to paint them again but in a different style.  When rummaging in the ‘stuff’ in the cupboard in my studio, I found a drawing that I did for a Christmas card that I drew at least ten years ago. I had tried to produce soft edges by using a scribbled sort of line.

I decided to try this approach along with a freer style for my next poppy picture. Here is the result.
